MJR Meet-n-Greet – Big Bear (Day 1)
Well, Tiffany and I started our first Jeep/Offroad trip by getting lost!! We mistook the sign where 3N14 and 2N68 met and went on 2N68. Well, luckily we had my Uncle’s GPS and maps! We were able to find the campground (we were right the first time, but I went against our gut feelings). Anyways, 30 minutes later than planned, I began to get nervous! I saw Kurt’s and Paul’s Jeeps, which were heavily modded, and then saw Rick/Sarah in their heavily modded Jeep! I began to wonder what my stocker would go through for the weekend. Luckily, a few other people were there in stockers too, and even so, you’d be surprised at what a stock Jeep can do! We saw Bob’s Jeep, which didn’t seem too much higher, but any lift helped over my stocker!
Well, we set out, but Bob and the others in front of us took us straight to Fawnskin because we didn’t know how to get to 2N84 (MJR’s adopt-a-trail) and we didn’t make the correct turn. Since Tiffany and I had a map, CB that worked well enough to talk to everybody on 2N84, and GPS, we were able to lead from there and get us to the trail!
From there, we all kinda introduced ourselves to one-another, as you do in a “meet-n-greet” fashion. Then, we proceeded up to the peak of 2N84 (Little Bear Peak). There were a couple tiny obstacles in the way, that seemed huge to me (being in a stock Jeep, and new to Jeepin’ and manual transmissions!). We all made it up, and it quickly became a parking lot!
Then we hiked up to the top of the peak (where Jeeps don’t even go!) and checked out the view, the MJR geocache and also the Sierra Club (Yuck!) geocache.
After that, we split into two groups. The stockers, and the crazies! Tiffany and I went with the stockers (obviously) where we headed out to Butler Peak for a geocache and the Fire Lookout tower with an amazing view! The worst part of this was that since we had a good CB, they made us the tail Jeep. We breathed dust for half the day, which sucked! The view from Butler Peak was amazing!
After that, Tiffany and I split up from the rest of the group to head back to Uncle Bob and Aunt Charlene’s. This is because we were both tired, and done breathing dust for the day! We headed to Arco to get air in the tires, and then back to get showered!!!
