2007-02-17 – Calico Cleanup

To start the Calico trip, we headed up the 15, attempting to get to Calico Friday night. That went over like a fart in church! 3 Hours later we were in the Inland Empire still, so we called my (Mat’s) mom to see if we could spend the night. She conveniently lives in Fontana, so we were basically there already. 4 A.M. Saturday morning, we wake up, shower then hit the road. Around 6:45 we arrive to try and find everybody. Once we find the MJR group (they had been sleeping when we first drove around) we set up camp. It was now we realized we forgot our sleeping bags! Good job me… :( Thankfully Russ had an extra that we used in addition to the blankets I didn’t forget to bring!

Me & Shirley

After the driver’s meeting for the group leaders, we all headed to the staging area.

MJR was assigned to putting up some signs. Here are the tools we received:

Tools of the trade

Our group had 21 signs to post, while the other two did 6, and 11!!! We had to book it! The first couple took a while until we got the hang of it. Some ground was horrible to go through, and others cut through like butter. Along the way, we picked up any trash we saw.

Post Post install Mike/Brian Treasures Galore!

In Kurt’s work truck we had a whole house. We were ready to move to Tijuana, Mexico! We had a couch, TV, VCR, BBQ grille, complete with washer and dryer! To boot, we also had steering components from a VW (or something small), a motorcycle frame, car stereo, and a screen door among other things!

BBQ Time! Kurt’s Truck

When one of the groups finished, Russ came to join ours for the last couple signs.

Almost Done! Brian’s Spotlight Shirley

We ran out of ’3′ stickers, so we had to improvise! What we did was cut an 8 in half, although during our night run we found out that it looks an awful lot like a 1 from farther at night!

Erik

We had spotted some other trash, so on our way back to the staging area we stopped to get 3 more washers and a water heater that had been dumped.

BE CAREFUL!!! Washer the first! Fitting them in!

Somebody with something

Eating Time!!!
We BBQd some sausage and veggies that Mike brought (Thanks Mike!!!). The sausage was REALLY good! I’m going to have to shop at Trader Joes for sausage in the future! Then we decided to head out on a night run and do Phillips Loop. It was right around camp, and somewhat short. It was perfect for what we wanted because I was kind of tired, and Tiffany didn’t really want to go on a night run at all. She ended up not being very happy through one stretch of the run as it was. The run was mostly pretty easy, except for one section where I felt I needed a spotter. I probably could have made it through without it, but I didn’t want to take a chance on breaking something trying to just muscle over it when with a spotter it was easy to just crawl as a Jeep should! Everybody else made it over no problem, but they’ve all got more experience (and rig) than I do! (Plus, they cheated… Mike got out before hand, Stuart has a beautifully beefy rig, and Russ got to see it when he hopped out to spot me!)

Food time! Night Run Shirley at night!

After the short run we went back to camp and did the mandatory campfire and roasted some marshmallows. We made a couple smores, and had some wine (Thanks Russ!).

UPDATE:

Joint Clean Up Totals:

(448) rigs, (741) energetic volunteers, (16) tons of trash, (5) vehicles recovered, (67) trail markers installed, (2) kiosks installed, and all of the graffiti in the canyons was removed. BLM Barstow Field Office extends their gratitude and thanks to all those that participated and contributed to this events success. Their staff led a church youth group and IE4WD played in the Calico’s this last weekend. Both groups swore that Calico hasn’t been that clean in many, many years.

2007-01-06 – Lawrence Welk

Today I went out with a small group from www.JeepForum.com to some trails by the Lawrence Welk resort in Fallbrook (Is that where it is?). I gave Bob (from MJR) a call since he lives 5 minutes away. He was able to make it, which was nice… I know he loves every chance to go wheeling! The trails were actually a lot more technical than I expected. There were a few spots that some of us chickened out of, but we all had a good time. We had 6 people total. Matt (Rubi, our leader for the day), Eric (YJ), Pat (YJ), Bob (TJ), Mark (ZJ) and myself (TJ). Not much to this trip other than some cool pictures. Again, I don’t have too many of me, so if you have any, please send them to me, or post them so I can steal them!

To make this run, we had to get to Cardiff to get our sample wedding cake in the morning. We wouldn’t have time to drop it off at home, so we loaded up the cooler w/ a 20lb. bag of ice, and headed out. The cake was with us the whole wheeling trip, but it survived! DELICIOUS! Those of you who like Banana cake will love the top two tiers of the cake!

2006-11-04 – Big Bear/Pioneer Town

This trip was originally to try and go to the Pontiac Sluice and test our off-road driving abilities since both my Uncle Bob and I were in (nearly) stock Jeeps. Tiffany and I drove up Friday night after my monthly company BBQ and we made good time after we got off the 76! We were ready to get up early Saturday morning and get out there w/ the Jeeps. We started off by installing the “storage pins” for my Uncle’s JKS Quicker Disco’s. He actually broke the tap! So 1 was in, the other had the butt end of the tap still stuck in the frame. No big deal. If we disconnect, we’ll just zip-tie his sway bar out of the way!

Now the big deal… I had advised my Uncle to get a Dana 44 rear end for piece of mind. I doubt he’d ever wheel hard enough to break a Dana 35, but if you don’t have to worry about it, it will make his trips that much better. He and his wife both asked 2 different people at the dealership twice to make sure it was a D44, and were assured it was. As I was looking over his Jeep I saw the dreaded RUBBER FILL PLUG!!! The shape was awfully round too, unlike a Dana 44. I let him know, and we got the numbers down. Come to find out they were sold the Jeep without the sticker and the dealer later found it and DHLed it to them. They have been in contact with the dealer who acknowledged the error (thank goodness!) and are currently trying to work out options.

We start out the 38 to get to 1N01 only to find a fairly large group of people in front of us headed to Pioneer Town. We decided to take it easy and run with them to Pioneer Town and see the Pontiac on the way back. The group we met with liked to stop every couple hundred feet for beer breaks. They were shooting a potato gun into the woods, and we just didn’t “vibe” with them. Here was the first stop, where we decided to break off from them.

First Stop

After breaking off, we wanted to make sure we got to Pioneer Town before the group since they were also planning on having lunch at the small restaurant there. We passed through the fire damaged area and made it to Pioneer Town well ahead of the large group (they made yet another pit stop on the way).

On the way back we decided to take a look at the Pontiac Sluice. We drove up 2N61Y a bit, but decided to turn around because right where it started getting harder, the sun was DIRECTLY in our windshields, and after a day of dust, it was already getting hard to see through them. Also, with less than 1000 miles on my uncle’s Jeep (not even license plates yet!) my Aunt wasn’t too confident in making it through. It looked like we’d have to pick good lines instead of just driving wherever, but no problem for a stock jeep with a good driver. We hiked quite a bit to see if the trail got harder before we decided to call it quits. We thought that it could take a couple hours, and by that time the sun would be gone!

We ended up heading back out to 2N01 and then taking 3N01 back to the 18 for a change of scenery on the way back. Glad we did this, different terrain which was a tiny bit more difficult. Still all 2WD stuff, but it was still fun. The amazing part was we were descending, which made it easier, but we came across a group of dolts that were in a 2 wheel drive Ford Ranger trying to climb up some of the slightly tougher stuff. There were 2 girls in the bed sitting on a cooler, ready to fly out if the truck bounced much more than it was already. They were getting stuck, but the driver was determined so we didn’t want to stick around for when he either broke something or hurt somebody… We headed off and found some other terrain that looked like it might be hard for a LWB vehicle in 2WD to climb, so maybe the driver was better than we gave credit!

We made it back close to the 18 and aired up for the highway, and stopped to take a couple pictures because it was beautiful that day!

2006-10-28 – Ocotillo Wells

We have heard many words of Ocotillo Wells’ vast number of people on Halloween weekend, but have never experienced it ourselves. This was our chance! We were meeting the Peji’s again for more fun!

We head out Friday afternoon, and by the time we’re close to Ocotillo Wells there’s a steady stream of RVs in front of us as far as the eyes can see around the turns! If we had been in a hurry somewhere, this would have been hell!

Line Up

Saturday we dressed up. I was a trashy new-yorker. It was fun messing around all day lookin’ like this!

White Trash Halloween

On Saturday we just rode out to Shell Reef to watch all the crazies! We had a little fun in the Jeep and even got a ride on some friends of the Pejis’ sand rail! Makes me want to purchase one of those some day! Shell Reef was PACKED!!! I knew now what they were talking about with tons and tons of people! Everywhere you looked were just more people!

Crowd at Shell Reef Even more! Still More

We went back to camp to eat and everything when the fun started… Everybody else got costumed-up, even the pets!

Tiffany was an 80′s chick, but ended up looking a LOT like “Deb” from Napoleon Dynamite. Sarah was a punk rocker chick, KC=KittyCat, and the kids are what you see pictured…. :)

Tiffany’s attempt at art. Spider!!! Sarah, Billy, KC

Saturday night ended up being quite a deal… There’s a trailer that a local pulls with his tractor for a hay ride through the “spook run” that has some Halloween displays and scary stuff. We were almost back when at the same time Tiffany and I heard a strange noise, like metal noise. We both look down and see that the trailer blew a tire bead. Once we get Boyd to stop (he couldn’t hear us all yelling). Billy (KCs friend) and I grabbed the Jeep (On Board Air) and his truck (he had a jack that he thought could lift the trailer). We removed the valve stem, but couldn’t come close to getting it seated. We were somewhat blocking the traffic for the spook run, so Boyd pulled the trailer back to his land and we followed. Once there, we tried a few more tricks. Nobody had ether, so we tried carb cleaner, but it wasn’t flammable enough… It wouldn’t atomize enough to really “blow.” We ratchet strapped the tire and finally got the beads (front and rear) to catch. We applied a little more air so that when we released the strap it would still hold. I knew the ratchet strap was going to release violently so I opened it to ALMOST the point where it releases, then positioned my hand in a place where I thought it’d be safe. I was wrong!!! The ratchet strap released even more violently than I expected and it got my thumb pretty darned good!

Sunday was clean-up day. Once Dennis did a little work on their machines we went for a fun, but long ride out to Gas Domes. We led since it was uncharted territory and Dennis and Ally were in a 2 wheel drive truck. There were some rocky parts, and some really sandy parts. Most of the bad spots were on the trail we THOUGHT was Gas Dome trail but turned out as some unnamed trail. We met up with Pole Line Road and were able to find our way, but right before Pole Line Road is when Dennis got a little stuck. I think with enough time (and if he was alone and desperate) he could have eventually rocked his way out of the little area, but it was just easier to pull him out with the Jeep! After all, there’s a reason I was leading!

Digging for gold! Pull 1 Pull 1 Out!!!

When we made it to Gas Dome Tiffany wanted to take another “artsy” picture for the weekend. This is her interpretation of “machine one with nature.”

More Tiffany art?

Once up at Gas Dome we took a few pictures as the view was pretty good, and it seemed like a good photo-taking opportunity.

Gas Domes Gas Bubble Proof

On our way back to camp to eat, clean up and leave we found this complete moron (and his 2 stupid friends). His rear was buried in to his differential!!! He was stuck pretty good! First, we drive up on a Dodge Ram trying to pull him out, but I think the Ram was only 2wd. Plus the truck was empty in the bed and couldn’t grab any sand. Then I offered to help, but they didn’t seem to really want it. The next taker was their buddy in a Durango. He pulled up backwards and that’s when we realized they were trying to pull him using those little 1″ ratchet tie-downs which are usually rated at holding (not pulling) only around 1,000 pounds. Tiffany says “Mat, you better get away, that thing’s going to snap!” Knowing it was going to snap, I just stayed right there. The Durango backed up a couple inches, and literally as soon as there was tension on the strap it broke. Kind of amusing. Realizing that their options were running out, they accepted my offer to pull them out. I still had the strap hooked up in the rear from pulling Dennis, so when I backed up to him one of the winners grabbed my antenna (I had the second loop of the strap over it) and pulled it down thinking it was a whip antenna. He broke my CB stud (second one down, many to go…). When Billy and I ducked under the Ford to see what to hook the strap to we saw that his cross-member was crushed and rusty, so this wasn’t the first time he’s done something stupid and trashed his truck. I start going forward to pull him out and when the strap (30,000 lb.) becomes taught, I’m just turning sand slowly. I hear commotion from everybody standing around. As I realize what it’s about, the driver does too and switches from park to drive. Did I mention these people were morons? Anyways, once he was in drive, with Shirly’s pulling power I pulled him out with ease. So fast that Tiffany wasn’t even able to put the camera into “video” mode before he was out, so she just snapped a second still shot!

Moron Pull Moron is out!

As usual, here’s a damage assessment for the weekend. No mechanical damage (other than my CB antenna mount stud). Just thumb damage. Warning, if you click for the bigger one, it might be a little graphic for Moms and the like. ;)

2006-10-14 – Operation Desert Fun IV

This weekend, there was a big event planned/organized by Cal4Wheel called Operation Desert Fun. It was the fourth year, and again held in Ocotillo Wells. It was a charity event that supported Cal-Diego Paralyzed Veterans Association. We went out and stayed with our friends the Peji’s again since they’re out there almost every weekend now! We got there a day early to play around.

On the way down, our Jeep died! Some sort of electrical problem. The symptoms were that of my ADE system being disabled. Battery fine, cranks fine, but no fuel pressure. I figured that the ADE system was at fault. Tiffany gets out the big maglite to start flagging cars around, since we were pulled over in twisty mountain roads, and I started ripping apart the dash. A few people stopped to see if everything was OK. Good thing, as I didn’t have electrical connectors or crimpers, but one of the people did! I ripped out the ADE relay, and spliced the wire as if I never touched it, and still nothing!!! Time to freak out! People were asking if I wanted a tow called, but I refused because I knew it would have probably been around $500. I used a test light to see if there was any voltage on the wire (I knew from the ADE install and some reading that I should have +12V on that wire when the ignition was on). Since that wire did not have the ignition controlled +12V I just spliced a constant +12V source from my aux fuse block to the wire as a constant, so I could start it up, and got us to Ocotillo! Thanks to the people that stopped, and helped! This week I’ll solder the connectors and everything up to get it all back to normal! I need to do some other wiring soon too (noise suppressor for the CB, and a wired FM modulator for my MP3 player on long trips).

We signed up for the “Family Run” on Saturday morning that will promise some harder spots. I was still unsure of how many “hard” things I wanted to try, but this run offered the option of bypasses, where as the in-between run had NO bypasses, which scared us out of it. We would have missed out on a spectacular (bad) crash had we gone on another run, and would have tried the Jeep harder. Next time!

The first section was just some washes getting to the first hill to play on. The first hill had an easy way, and a hard way. We took the easy way, as did (almost) everybody.

FJ Behind Me View From The Top Way down!

After that, we watched as a few people took the “hard way”.

Run Leader Run Leader's Climb

Us along with crowd that watched the people climb the hard route.

Watching Other Onlookers

This way proved to be more than hard for an old FJ Land Cruiser (Toyota, NOT a Jeep).

FJ Didn’t make it! Rolled FJ

The driver lost control backing down. We’re not sure if it was mechanical failure (he was barreling down backwards) or driver error, but after backing down a small section slowly, he started backing down VERY quickly and then turned to the right (where you see the guy picking up the stuff that fell out). It then proceeded to roll 3 or 4 times, ejecting the driver. The driver was wearing a seat belt, but only a lap-belt, and around his stomach, not his hips. This caused him to be thrown out. It was DAMN scary, as we all thought we were going to see the FJ land on him and kill him. Instead, he was thrown to the right, while the last roll of the FJ went to the left. Lucky man! From the amateur assessments of the MA in training, and others around, we suspected a concussion, broken bone in between his eyes, collarbone, ribs, and maybe a collapsed lung. Pretty amazing if you saw the roll. I’ve seen a lot of rolls on video clips, and this was definitely one of the most violent rolls I’ve seen. I’m still not sure if it’s because I saw it in person, or because it was really that bad. From the sounds of others (there, and ones who just saw video) it was pretty bad.

The crowd More spectaters

Before the Fire Department arrived, the man was conscience, knew his name, the date, etc. We checked his pulse if he could feel his toes and move them. Everything fine, just lots of pain as you could imagine! The two other passengers were absolutely fine. They stayed strapped in, and the cage did it’s job. There was also a dog that jumped out on the first roll. Within 2 seconds of the vehicle stopping, there were 10 to 15 people around to help. Since it didn’t land on him, and landed upright, we didn’t need to turn the vehicle. A couple people unhooked the batteries, made sure no fuel was leaking, etc. Tiffany grabbed their dog, and held on to it for a while, and I went and grabbed a water for the man.

Help is here! More help! View from afar!

He was lifelighted out to (conflicting stories here) either Palomar Hospital, or Palm Springs. Reports are saying he’s going to be OK, which is amazing! He should play the lottery with luck like that!

The rest of the group that kept going made our way to Devil’s Slide. The Jeep made it up that with ease!

Group that continued!

From there we went to Shell Reef again. A spot that has a lot of fun stuff to play around in for Jeeps, trucks, bikes and quads!

Willy’s! CJ in the crack!

After playing around in Shell Reef, we broke off to go get food and drop off PJ and Sarah. Tiffany and I came back to do the “fun run” which left about 30-40 minutes late because they were trying to find the couple of other people that had signed up. We had 1 Jeep (us), a 2wd Tacoma with volunteers, a guy on a quad, and a couple in a Yamaha off-road golf-cart thingie led by the run leader who was in a 4wd diesel double cab, long bed… longest truck ever!!! The “fun run” was kind-of cheezy, but we had fun none the less. The bad part was that it was VERY windy, and the little “fun” stops were pretty hard, and mostly dumb luck after the wind got a hold of the golf ball/softball/football/etc.

Fun Run Jeff’s Victory

While out on the “fun run” we saw this gem. Some idiot rolled this crappy truck! The thing we can’t figure out is what kind of idiot gets a truck like this in any kind of situation where it could roll. It’s just a road truck! If they want to do some off-roading, get a Jeep, FJ, etc.

Idiot Shot 1 Idiot Shot 2

Here’s my poser video! This is a small (easy) section of the fun stuff we were playing around in behind Shell Reef.

Poser Shot

At the main camp and vendor area, there was another adventure trailer. I love these things! They’re perfect for Tiffany and I since we love camping, and can’t pull a heck of a lot with the Jeep. I have a feeling, one of these is in Tiffany and my future!

2006-10-08 – Chargers/Steelers Game

Well, one of my best buddies is a huge Steelers fan, and bought tickets to the Sunday 10/08/2006 Chargers game. We didn’t have tickets, but since we’re local, we figured we’d hang out in the parking lot to tailgate and see what goes on. Being the way I am, just being in the parking lot before the game wasn’t good enough. We wanted to be in the parking lot DURING the game! That’s where my inverter and DirecTV box comes into play! NFL Sunday Ticket and all, we were ready to watch all the day’s games, and stick around for the main event! Steelers fans were EVERYWHERE! We had fun, the Chargers won, and we got tons of compliments and even met a few people!

Here is a link to Syd’s pictures!

We started off the day filling up, because we weren’t sure if the inverter powering the TV and satellite box would drain the battery a ton, and leave us stranded…

Fill up!

When we arrived, we found a spot quickly to begin setting up! In no time we had satellite TV, grille going, and beer in hand!

Camp Camp Camp

Once we were setup, Lou started playing with himself… Don’t ask why, because I don’t know why! (Actually, he had some stain on his shorts he was trying to take care of… but that doesn’t sound as funny)!

Lou playing...

Here’s what powered our fun! My 800 watt continuous, 1600 watt peak inverter! This thing made our Jimmy Buffett experience fun as well, as this is the guy that powered the blender to mix our margaritas. Maybe the blender will make another road-trip on the 26th of Oct!!! (Jimmy Buffett’s going to be in Chula Vista!)

Power!

We found our doubles! Not only were they watching DirecTV, but they were in a Jeep, were using a similar inverter, and were Chargers fans! To top it off, they EVEN have a Fire & Ice like ours!

We weren’t alone!

One of the craziest things were the number of Steelers fans in California! Tons of them we talked to actually flew in just for the game, others have family back east, or whatever their story, there were just wayyyy too many black & gold!!!

Steelers fans EVERYWHERE! Cool inflatable!

One thing is for sure. People at concerts (besides our group) do NOT know how to tailgate. People at football games know how to do it right! This picture was taken roughly 4 hours before the game started!

REAL Tailgating!

Not everybody there were steeler fans! These people obviously wanted to see the steelers stripped of any pride they had!

Not all Steelers fans!

Here we found some professional tailgaters! Their bar-b-que is permanently mounted in the rear of their truck, and rolls out on a nice little wooden frame with rollers! How’s that for easy setup!

Professional Tailgaters!

From the air above, the damn seagulls could not tell the difference between the blue & gold and the black & gold! They were taking out us Charger fans! I had gotten up to check the hot-dogs on the grille and within 30 seconds, we were under attack… Lou got hit, and my chair got ruined!!! Had I been sitting there, I would have had a pretty shitty night (pun intended)!

Bird attack! I JUST got up!

Here’s after the final score of the night! Using the fireworks (and a couple “du-na-na-NA-na-NA” charge calls) we were able to figure out that it was about a 5-6 second delay from the stadium until we heard it on TV!

Qualcomm!

Ocotillo Wells

Although we didn’t do any technical Jeep offroading, we had fun driving the Jeep around in the sand, and riding our friends’ quads. Here’s everybody that was there, minus Tiffany who took the shot!

The Fam + me!

Tiffany tried taking a couple pictures when we were rolling, but they mostly came out blurry/crooked. Here’s a couple anyways!

Blurry Blurry

After our first stop at Blow Sand Hill (very breif), we moved on to Shell Reef. Here’s the biggest rock I could find:

Big Rock? I think not! The lineup! Like my helmet?

At night, we had to look for other fun, so we had a bonfire, including a bunch of nasty locals:

Ugly Spiders!

But, we had fun none-the-less… Hopefully a couple of those guys died in our OTHER fire! This was a birthday fire for one of the boys with KC’s family’s sons. And this dog got a front row seat!

FIRE!! Nice resting spot!

After that, we went to Blow Sand Hill to see a couple nice san rails tear it up, and even a group of heavily modified Jeeps! I got stuck pretty quickly, and somebody was there tearing up their Infinity GX4! It was fun, but I had a close call losing my cell phone! It was found the next morning by the campfire!

We had to make more fun, so we were torturing these nasty bugs that we thought were stink bugs. They were everywhere, but no matter how much we provoked them, they didn’t spray, so they must just look like stink-bugs.

Stink Bugs? Bugs Bugs!

DAMAGE ASSESMENT:

SOB The rest of the nail!

After the drive back to the 5th wheeler, the top part of the nail broke off, so we had to hunt in the tire for it. I was able to successfully patch it, and so far, so good! My rubber cement in my patch kit dried up but the tiny store at the campground had some!

MJR Meet-n-Greet – Big Bear (Day 2)

Day two starts out with both Tiffany and I blowing our noses, only hers has blood (from all the dust we sucked down on day 1)! This makes her not want to go out for day 2, so to fill the shotgun side of the Jeep, my Uncle Bob gladly jumped in! I was excited (not because Tiffany didn’t want to come) but because I knew my uncle wanted to come, and since he’s thinking about buying a Jeep, I was hoping this would persuade him to buy one sooner!

So we head out with a partial MJR group to White Mountain. When we drove up and saw the incline and number of rocks, I was intimidated. This was only my second time driving my Jeep off-road and I’ve only been driving stick for around 2 months! Anyways, here’s a few pictures of the trip there, and the view!

Trip to White Mountain View of High Desert White Mountain

The View up White Mountain

It’s not too difficult, but the pictures don’t do it justice. This is a trail that no other stock vehicle could even imagine (not even a hummer). But, it’s not toooo bad… I mean if I can do it on my second time offroad, after only driving a manual for about a month, in a bone-stock Jeep… c’mon! There was one small part I needed help over (same with Patrick!) but not a big deal for Kurt’s giant rig!

Here’s some footage of Patrick in his unlimited stuck, and getting pulled out!

Now, I can’t get over either! A tiny tug (not a large pull) gets me over, and we’re rollin’ again! Glad I invested in those hooks, much easier than trying to wrap something around the bumper or cross-member and messing it up!

That stupid bolt keeps coming out! I’m going to double-nut it, or get some high-temp loc-tite to hold that guy down!

All in all a great trip! Thanks to everybody from MJR, and especially our trail guides and our courteous hosts Uncle Bob, and Aunt Charlene!

MJR Meet-n-Greet – Big Bear (Day 1)

Well, Tiffany and I started our first Jeep/Offroad trip by getting lost!! We mistook the sign where 3N14 and 2N68 met and went on 2N68. Well, luckily we had my Uncle’s GPS and maps! We were able to find the campground (we were right the first time, but I went against our gut feelings). Anyways, 30 minutes later than planned, I began to get nervous! I saw Kurt’s and Paul’s Jeeps, which were heavily modded, and then saw Rick/Sarah in their heavily modded Jeep! I began to wonder what my stocker would go through for the weekend. Luckily, a few other people were there in stockers too, and even so, you’d be surprised at what a stock Jeep can do! We saw Bob’s Jeep, which didn’t seem too much higher, but any lift helped over my stocker!

Well, we set out, but Bob and the others in front of us took us straight to Fawnskin because we didn’t know how to get to 2N84 (MJR’s adopt-a-trail) and we didn’t make the correct turn. Since Tiffany and I had a map, CB that worked well enough to talk to everybody on 2N84, and GPS, we were able to lead from there and get us to the trail!

From there, we all kinda introduced ourselves to one-another, as you do in a “meet-n-greet” fashion. Then, we proceeded up to the peak of 2N84 (Little Bear Peak). There were a couple tiny obstacles in the way, that seemed huge to me (being in a stock Jeep, and new to Jeepin’ and manual transmissions!). We all made it up, and it quickly became a parking lot!
Then we hiked up to the top of the peak (where Jeeps don’t even go!) and checked out the view, the MJR geocache and also the Sierra Club (Yuck!) geocache.

Meeting Everybody! Yellow Post 2N84 Peak (Little Bear Peak) Parking Lot Granola!

After that, we split into two groups. The stockers, and the crazies! Tiffany and I went with the stockers (obviously) where we headed out to Butler Peak for a geocache and the Fire Lookout tower with an amazing view! The worst part of this was that since we had a good CB, they made us the tail Jeep. We breathed dust for half the day, which sucked! The view from Butler Peak was amazing!

After that, Tiffany and I split up from the rest of the group to head back to Uncle Bob and Aunt Charlene’s. This is because we were both tired, and done breathing dust for the day! We headed to Arco to get air in the tires, and then back to get showered!!!
